Helicopters Italia Installs HeliSAS® System
Mineral Wells, TX — Helicopters Italia has successfully completed its first installation of the HeliSAS® Autopilot and Stability Augmentation System on an AS350 B3 helicopter. The customer — Cav. Luca Marianetti, CEO and President of Velan ABV S.p.A — has expressed his satisfaction with the improved helicopter performance.
The retrofit was successful due to the strong partnership between Genesys Aerosystems, producer of HeliSAS and holder of the relevant approved European Aviation Safety Agency supplemental type certificate, and Helicopters Italia, the reference point in Italy and in other countries for the maintenance and the customization of Airbus Helicopters aircraft.
Weighing less than 15 pounds, the HeliSAS sets a new standard for helicopter safety and productivity. It dramatically reduces pilot workload while providing precise control during all modes of flight, regardless of wind conditions or shifts in weight. HeliSAS provides stabilization of the AS350 B3 helicopter thanks to two actuators installed on the pitch and roll control axes. In addition, HeliSAS integrates with avionics to deliver the advanced operations of more complex autopilots:
HDG mode: tracking of a bow set on the horizontal situation indicator (HSI) board;
NAV mode: (VOR / ILS / GPS) tracking of a VOR radio service/ILS, or tracking a route previously set on the GPS board; and
ALT mode: altitude hold mode.
HeliSAS brings the tremendous safety and workload reduction advantages of stability augmentation to a wide range of light and medium helicopter models, including the following Airbus Helicopters models: Ecureuil AS350 (H125) B, BA, D, B1, B2 and B3; and EC130B4 and T2.
